These wonderful shawls come to us from a women's charitable trust in India. This charitable trust employs several hundred women spinners and weavers from rural communities. These women come from the lowest social and economic strata of India; from highly marginalised communities. This work provides their only source of income (which is fairly paid) along with training, regular work and safe working conditions. The trust provides free schooling and health care for the weavers and their families.
The shawlss are woven in natural fibres - a beautiful hand spun Mulberry Silk is used, it is then hand woven to produce these fabulous and unique statement scarves. The purity of the fibres and amazing weaving techniques result in a durable and "stand out" accessory.
This shawl has a wonderfully soft and sumptuous texture and weave. Each is edged with a thin gold Zari thread - so beautiful! This is an 'all season' scarf, cool in the Summer yet cosy in the Winter, and kind to skin. AZO-free dyes have been used for this shawl, and each has a small card with the weavers name on it.
Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process. Eco-friendly by virtue of the crafting being entirely by hand, which means that the production process is environmentally friendly and creates no toxic waste.
Care: Cold wash. Do not soak. Non-biological liquid. Dry flat in shade. Iron If Necessary.
