100% ORGANIC COTTON
Last Few £45
A stunning hand spun, hand woven organic Kala cotton shawl. Woven by a very talented weaver in the Vankar community of weavers from the desert area of Kutch in India. This shawl has distinctive motifs and natural dye.
Kala cotton comes from an ancient seed native to the Kutch region of India. It is highly sustainable and organic by nature, as all it needs to thrive is one monsoon a year. The final product is a yummy cotton with a natural fleck that softens with every wash.
Artisans have added colour to textiles for thousands of years. It is only recently (the first artificial dye was invented in 1857) that the textile industry has turned to synthetic dyes. Synthetic dyes can be very harmful to the environment. Today, many craftspeople are rediscovering the techniques of achieving colour through the use of non-toxic, natural sources and our shawls are wonderful examples of this. They have been woven by an extremely talented weaver using traditional weaving methods wth embellished extra weft.
All shawls have been hand washed here at asunsti prior to dispatch to you.
Eco-friendly. Size approx 58cm x 200cm with slight variations. Small irregularities are part of the charm of an entirely handmade shawl, which we would ask you to embrace.
Cold wash in mild detergent. Line dry and iron if necessary.
Natural dyes are subtle and will change colour over time, we think this makes your shawl extra special and it will be unique to you. (Dark colours may rub).
